Three Reality Shows That Offered People With Great Ideas And Inventions To Become Successful In Their Goal
Whether you enjoy it or despise it, reality TV is a popular hit currently on traditional networks as well as cable programs. There appear to be new concepts for reality TV being pitched regularly and a lot of ideas seem to come in groupings. A few years ago there were some programs that showcased inventors or possible entrepreneurs in a contest where they had to market their invention or idea to a group of judges. The ultimate goal was receiving enough money or the opportunity to have your invention becoming patented by a patent attorney or patent lawyer and having the resources to advertise and market your invention to make it a success. This article will look into some of the different reality programs that dealt with this concept and how they worked.
The first show is called American Inventor and is a reality show based on a competition to be named America’s best inventor. This show is based on the similar show in the United kingdom called Dragon’s Den and is produced by Peter Jones, Simon Cowell and the producers of the hit show American Idol. The show had 2 seasons with the first one premiering in the spring of 2006. The first winner, Janusz Liberkowski invented a child safety seat that used the concept of a baby being secure in a womb concept. The 2nd winner was firefighter Greg Chavez that created the Guardian Angel which was a fire stopping component for Christmas trees to reduce the number of fires being started during the holiday season. Both won 1 million dollars worth of business support and counseling, business resources and prize money.
Another reality show was known as Made in the U.S.A and is the idea of the USA cable network who is working together with the Home Shopping Network to create a terrific prize package. This show will go through the different steps that inventors must endure attempting to get their invention or idea out to the public and to become popular. The winner of this show eventually, has the opportunity to market their item on HSN in front of millions of viewers and have the chance to make a lot of money by presenting their product on the successful home shopping show.
The last show is called Shark Tank and that is the most recent show of the three to be created which also follows a similar prototypethe ideas of the Dragon’s Den and produced by Mark Burnett. This show will offer entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their idea to five multiple million dollar tycoons in hopes of them giving them the money they need to make their idea come to fruition. The timing is perfect with the difficult economy and the difficulty getting loans today from banks or lenders.
These shows appeal to the audience that has often said, “Why didn’t I think of that”? It is amazing the concepts and inventions the contestants come up with which makes it a hit. The inventors are often as entertaining as few of their inventions as well.
